Organization Structure
When integrating a business system with the workflow engine, organization data (departments, users, groups, positions) must be synchronized so that assignees, permissions, and related features work correctly.
See Integration with Business Systems for the full integration path.
Overview
The workflow engine organization model includes departments, users, groups, positions, and their relationships. In production, data should be synchronized from the business system rather than using built-in test data.
Testing vs production
- Testing: You may use the engine's built-in organization data for API integration.
- Production: Organization data must be synchronized from the business system, with user and department IDs consistent with the business system.
Implementation
Adapter development
Implement an organization adapter to read data from the business system and load it into the workflow engine. Common approaches:
- Extend the organization adapter interface according to your business data model
- Pull organization data from the business system via REST APIs
- Configure scheduled sync via SQL when the data source is directly accessible
Online configuration
The management console supports configuring data sources and sync policies, including:
- Enable/disable data sources
- Initialization mode and sync frequency
- SQL or API configuration for departments, users, groups, positions, etc.
